Looking for the best French language resources and courses?
This is my hand-picked list of all-time favorite resources for learning French. There are many French resources out there but these are the resources and courses I've personally fallen in love with.
This list will be periodically updated as new options become available.
Total transparency: Always assume that links I provide here are affiliate links. I'll try to provide free content wherever possible but in most cases it'll be a paid product I earn from. LFLG is a for-profit site which means that if I can make a commission by referring you to a product, I probably will.
Rocket French: This is my personal favorite and one I can't recommend enough. Rocket French is so incredibly popular and covers an enormous amount of French language content. Do yourself a favor and do a free trial.
Frantastique: This is one of the most unique French course options around and it really works. You get regular lessons delivered to you and the system uses AI to "adapt" to your learning. Also covers different French accents.
French Simplified: This is an excellent video course (actually two courses) put together by a famous French teacher and social media influencer (Joel Acker). There's an absolute beginner course (A1) and a more intermediate (A2) course, both of which I highly recommend.
FrenchPod101 (Innovative): Ever heard of FrenchPod101? I'd be surprised if you haven't! FrenchPod101 teaches uses a fun podcast format and it's a joy to listen to.
French Uncovered: If you love reading, then this is a perfect choice. French Uncovered teaches you French through stories that have been written and adapted for beginners. Very popular course option with a literary focus.
There are some really great books out there for learning French but these are some of my personal favorites (on Amazon):
italki: Create a free account and have look at the unbelievable amount of French teachers available for low cost.
Some French teachers on italki are so cheap it will shock you.
Mondly: An amazing and comprehensive app for learning French (and many other languages). Covers loads of relevant French topics and is beautifully designed.
Babbel: One of the most popular and well-known apps for learning French and other European languages. Superior to Duolingo in every way.
Pimsleur French: One of the biggest household names in language learning. It's been around for decades and is still one of the greatest French introductory courses ever made (audio only).
Duolingo: Surely you've heard of Duolingo! It's a decent, free platform that teaches you French grammar through a unique translation game.
